Active School Travel

Active School Travel (AST) is a program that promotes using active modes of transportation, such as walking, cycling, rollerblading, skateboarding when travelling to and from school.

Markham Cycles is working closely with the City of Markham, York Region District School Board, York Catholic District School Board and York Region, in undertaking a pilot program to promote walking and cycling at 9 elementary schools.

Markham Cycles will be setting up a pop-up bike booth at these schools offering cycling information and safety courses to students.

New for 2022, Markham will be piloting it’s first school street taking place at John McCrae Public School (565 Fred McLaren Boulevard).

Stricker Avenue between Hammersly Boulevard and Fred McLaren Boulevard will be temorarily closed with limited access during the School Street operations.

Sticker Avenue will be closed to regular car traffic on four (4) consecutive Wednesdays on:

Date: May 4, May 11, May 18 and May 25, 2022

Time: 8:15am to 9:15am, and 3:00pm and 4:00pm
